The administrative hub is located on the first floor of the GDNL Terminal ‘E’ Admin Building within the Papa Port Complex at Papa Wharf, Lagos, Nigeria.

This position primarily focuses on overseeing the physical unloading of cargo to ensure it is completed with speed, safety, and precise documentation.

Handles a range of responsibilities including managing project timelines, coordinating team efforts, and ensuring adherence to quality standards. Implements and monitors processes to enhance efficiency, troubleshoots issues as they arise, and maintains clear communication with stakeholders throughout project phases. Identifies risks, develops mitigation strategies, and reports progress to leadership on a regular basis. Additionally, oversees budget allocation, resource distribution, and compliance with company policies to achieve organizational objectives.

Conduct thorough inspections to verify the operational readiness and efficiency of shipboard equipment, including working gears, hatches, cranes, and discharge mechanisms, both before commencing and throughout the duration of cargo operations.

Coordinate and oversee the timely deployment of stevedoring crews and dockworkers to ensure the immediate initiation of cargo discharge operations as soon as the vessel arrives at the berth.

Oversee and optimize daily cargo discharge rates at the berth or jetty, delivering precise, real-time operational updates directly to the Head of Shipping to ensure seamless coordination and efficiency.

Collaborate effectively with operations teams at GDNL and Leak facilities while fostering strong partnerships with internal Strategic Business Unit (SBS) logistics departments to enhance cargo evacuation processes.

Prepare comprehensive, error-free daily Vessel Situation Reports (Streps), showcasing key operational metrics such as shift performance, tonnage throughput, and significant milestones achieved.

Promptly filing formal Letters of Protest on behalf of the company whenever operational challenges emerge—such as vessel equipment malfunctions, port congestion, or adverse weather conditions—to mitigate the risk of unjustified demurrage charges.

Ensure strict adherence to corporate policies, standard shipping procedures, and the safe execution of onboard activities in full compliance with maritime regulations.

Seeking candidates with demonstrated proficiency in relevant technical or functional areas, including but not limited to specific tools, methodologies, or industry standards. Individuals must possess strong analytical capabilities, problem-solving skills, and the ability to apply knowledge effectively in practical scenarios. Skilled in identifying operational inefficiencies, resolving volatile dockworker conflicts, and filing technical protests with composure in high-pressure situations.

Skilled in digital tools with strong command of Microsoft Office Suite—specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint—to create well-organized and precise vessel situation reports and logs.

Absolute integrity, a proactive mindset, and outstanding organizational abilities are essential. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong resilience and physical fitness to perform extensive onboard operations autonomously, without requiring constant oversight.

Possesses a comprehensive understanding of supervisory responsibilities and operational management processes aboard ships.

Proven expertise in both quantitative and qualitative analytical methodologies.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field is required, such as Business Administration, Finance, or Economics. Additionally, candidates should hold professional certifications or licenses where applicable, including CPA, CFA, or PMP. Prior experience in a similar role is essential.

A bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Maritime Transport & Business Studies, Shipping/Ports Operations & Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a comparable field is required.

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, business administration, or computer science, is required for this role, along with a minimum of five years of progressive work experience in a similar position. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in industry-specific software and tools. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership abilities, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous professional development. Responsibilities include managing projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
