North East Social Innovation Fellowship (NESIF) Program

ABOUT NESIF:
As part of USAID/OTI Nigeria’s work to Counter Violent Extremism in North East Nigeria, OTI is embarking upon “Social Innovation” cluster of activities to work with a group of thought leaders, preparing and training them to engage in the arduous task of fighting the toxic philosophies of the insurgents, using social innovation techniques.
This is an off shot of the ongoing North East Intellectual Entrepreneurship Fellowship Program with Forty-five (45) young men and women from the North East Region of Nigeria and other parts of the Country currently being taken through an intellectual entrepreneurship process, exposing them to key ideas of liberal democracy, free markets, tolerance, separation of religion and governance, critical thinking and using social medium as medium for communicating their ideas with the hashtag #NOTANOTHERNIGERIAN They also engage in book clubs, training and mentoring sessions on the relevant subject matters and principles.
Under the present activity, NORTH EAST SOCIAL INNOVATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM, fellows would in addition to the above activities also have the opportunity of receiving training, coaching and mentoring, and seed funding on an idea that has the capacity to improve on a social problem that is contributing to insurgency in the North East.
ENTITLEMENTS
Each selected participant will receive a tablet, monthly stipend, and books + other materials as may be determined by their trainers, coaches/mentors in the course of the fellowship. Up to 10 Fellows with outstanding social innovation ideas would receive further support by way of seed funding to work on their respective ideas during the course of the fellowship
The Thematic Focus for this Fellowship is COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM IN NIGERIA 
ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be individuals with NOT MORE THAN 3 YEARS POST-NYSC experience. You would need to attach your NYSC certificate as proof of this requirement.
Applicants must have and submit a social innovation idea that can contribute to solve an existing social problem in the North East
Applicants must be a citizen of NIGERIA (with Adamawa, Borno and Yobe as catchment states)
Applicants must have interest in in community work, volunteerism, and policy engagement
Applicants must be active in at least 2 Social Media Platforms for up to a year
Applicants must possess Higher National Diploma or Bachelors’ degree or equivalent 
Applicants must be fluent in both written and spoken English.
