Job Summary
The Legal Advisor is responsible for providing expert legal guidance to the organization, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, mitigating legal risks, and safeguarding the company’s interests. This role involves drafting and reviewing contracts, advising management on legal matters, handling dispute resolution, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Legal Advisor plays a crucial role in protecting the organization’s legal and business interests while upholding ethical standards.
Key Result Areas (KRA)
The key result areas of this role are:
Provide sound legal advice to management on business operations, contracts, and regulatory compliance
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts to protect the company’s interests.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory frameworks while identifying and mitigating legal risks.
Represent the organization in legal matters, including negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings when necessary.
Maintain legal records, conduct legal research, and stay updated on changes in laws and regulations
Responsibilities
Legal Advice and Consultation: Provide expert legal advice to management and other stakeholders. Interpret legal requirements and regulations, explaining them clearly. Advise on the legal implications of business decisions and strategies.
Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and legal agreements. Ensure contracts are legally sound and aligned with business objectives. Oversee the execution and enforcement of contracts.
Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure the organization complies with all relevant Nigerian laws and regulations. Identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and advise management on their impact.
Dispute Resolution & Litigation: Represent the company in legal proceedings when necessary. Negotiate and mediate disputes to achieve cost-effective resolutions. Advise on litigation strategies and manage external legal counsel.
Other Duties:
Conduct legal research and analysis.
Maintain and update legal databases and records.
Assist with other legal tasks assigned by senior management.
Uphold a high degree of professional ethics and integrity.
Undertake any other responsibilities assigned from time to time.
The Person
A law degree (LL.B) and a Nigerian Bar qualification
Relevant experience in a corporate, commercial, or regulatory legal environment
Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in providing expert legal guidance
Sound knowledge of Nigerian commercial law, corporate governance, and employment law
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Detail-oriented and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in legal research and writing.
