Lecturer I / Senior Lecturer (Computing)

OVERALL FUNCTION

The Department of Computing at Miva Open University is seeking a highly motivated and qualied individual for the position of LECTURER I OR SENIOR LECTURER COMPUTING.
The Lecturer I/Senior Lecturer (Computing) role focuses on advancing academic excellence through teaching, research, and community service within the eld of Computing.
The incumbent is expected to utilize their expertise in areas such as Articial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Robotics, and Software Engineering to deliver quality education in an open, distance, and digital learning ODDL environment.
This includes fostering innovation, developing industry-relevant curricula, and leveraging digital tools and AI to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Computing and its specializations.
Design, develop, and implement curricula, ensuring alignment with industry standards and advancements in AI, IT, and robotics.
Employ learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard) and AI tools to enhance delivery in ODL seings.
Create engaging and innovative online course materials, including video lectures, podcasts, and interactive digital content.

Research and Academic Contributions

Conduct high-impact research in areas like Computer Science, Articial Intelligence,
Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering.
Publish scholarly articles in recognized national and international peer-reviewed journals.
Actively participate in academic conferences, workshops, and seminars to share research insights and foster collaborations.

Student Mentorship and Support

Provide academic advising, mentorship, and guidance to students to support their academic and professional growth.
Develop strategies for eective student engagement in virtual and blended learning environments.

Community Engagement

Engage in impactful community service and development initiatives that promote the application of computing knowledge for societal benet.
Serve as an ambassador for the university in professional and public forums.

Leadership and Institutional Contributions

Contribute to academic planning, quality assurance, and the development of institutional policies.
Participate in commiees and initiatives that align with the institution’s goals and values.
Mentor junior faculty and contribute to the professional development of peers.

Professional and Technical Expertise

Maintain professional memberships and certications to ensure alignment with industry developments.
Demonstrate prociency in using LMS platforms and integrating emerging technologies, such as AI, into teaching and research.
Innovate and lead the development of virtual labs, simulations, and other digital resources to enhance learning outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Applicant must possess doctorate degree (PhD) in Computer Science/Software Engineering/Cybersecurity/Information Technology/Articial Intelligence/Robotics with a relevant area of specialty; MSc in Computer Science/Software Engineering/ Cybersecurity/Information Technology/Articial Intelligence/Robotics with a relevant area of specialty; and Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc) in Computer Science. Full membership of a relevant professional body will be an added advantage.
At least three to five years of university teaching experience in a blended or online learning environment, highlighting familiarity with digital and remote teaching tools.
A strong publication record in peer-reviewed academic journals is often required.
At least 5-10 published articles in recognized international or national journals.
Evidence of participation in conferences, seminars, or workshops related to the candidate’s eld of study.
Strong evidence of bias for use of AI tools is an added advantage.
Strong evidence of engagement in impactful community service/development.
Strong understanding of, and commitment to, student-centered learning in an Open, distance, and digital learning context is necessary.
Strong oral and wrien communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate eectively in a virtual learning environment.
Prociency in the use of learning management systems LMS such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard is essential.
Experience in developing online course content, video lectures, and interactive digital resources (such as podcasts, discussion forums, and virtual labs) is an advantage.
