A kitchen assistant primarily supports cooks by performing basic food preparation tasks like washing, chopping, and peeling ingredients, cleaning kitchen equipment, maintaining sanitation standards, and ensuring the kitchen workspace is clean and organized, all while adhering to food safety guidelines;essentially acting as a vital support role in the kitchen by assisting with food prep and maintaining cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities of a Kitchen Assistant
Food preparation:Washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and prepping vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients as needed.
Cleaning and sanitation:Washing dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and cleaning work surfaces, equipment, and appliances.
Inventory management:Receiving and storing food deliveries, rotating stock to ensure freshness.
Food safety compliance:Following proper food handling practices to prevent cross-contamination.
Basic cooking tasks:Assisting with simple cooking tasks like heating food, preparing sauces, or assembling dishes.
Maintaining cleanliness:Sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash in the kitchen area.
Following instructions:Adhering to the chef’s instructions and recipes.
