Job Description
We are seeking experienced Agronomist to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring the successful establishment, growth, and productivity of cassava fields. The successful candidates will oversee the land clearing, soil preparation, crop management, and productivity of cassava fields. The successful candidate will oversee the land clearing, soil preparation, crop management, pest control while working closely with the Agric-Team to implement best agronomic practices.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate land clearing activities, ensuring efficient removal of vegetation and debris.
Assess soil suitability and recommend land preparation techniques (ploughing, harrowing, ridging etc.).
Develop and execute site preparation plans, including mechanized operations.
Ensure proper implementation of soil conservation and erosion control measures and ensure proper field layout for effective crop spacing and access routes.
Design and implement planting schedules for optimal cassava production and co-ordinates harvesting operations
Supervise land preparation, seedbed formation, and planting and monitor soil conditions for fertility levels, and crop nutrient requirements.
Guide the team in fertilization, irrigation, and intercropping strategies and monitor pests, diseases, and weed infestations, ensuring timely control measures.
Develop and implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies and conduct field scouting and diagnose plant health issues.
Train field workers on best practices in land preparation, planting, and field maintenance.
Supervise daily agronomic activities to ensure adherence to standards and collaborate with farm managers, irrigation specialists, and field workers.
Maintain detailed field records on land clearing, planting, and crop performance.
Conduct soil and crop assessments and generate periodic reports.
Ensure compliance with sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
Stay updated on new technologies in cassava farming and soil health.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or related field.
2-3 years of experience in agronomy, farm management, or crop production.
Proven experience in cassava production is an added advantage.
Familiarity with mechanized land preparation and large-scale farming.
Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to farm locations.
Working Conditions
Farm-based role with exposure to outdoor conditions (heat, rain, sun).
Requires physical activities such as walking, standing, and lifting.
Long hours may be required during peak farming operations.
