To ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the school’s information systems and data, protecting against cyber threats and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. The IT/Data Security Officer will develop, implement and monitor the school’s IT security policies, procedures and technologies, safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining the school’s reputation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and enforce IT Security policies and procedures
Conduct risk assessment and vulnerability testing
Implement security measures such as firewalls, antivirus, encryption
Ensure GDPR and UK Data Protection Act compliance
Manage data backup and recovery processes
Conduct data audits and ensure data accuracy
Monitor network activity and detect intrusions
Configure and maintain firewalls, VPNs and access controls
Ensure software updates and patch management
Develop and implement incident response plans
Investigate and respond to security incidents; communicate incidents to stakeholders
Stay updated on regulatory requirements
Provide staff training on IT security best practices
Conduct security awareness campaigns
Participate in IT service management processes
Ensure IT service continuity and disaster recovery
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field
IT Security certifications
Certification in data protection or information governance is a plus
Minimum 3 years of experience in IT security, preferably in the education sector
Strong knowledge of IT security frameworks
Experience with security technologies
Excellent problem solving, communication and analytical skills
Experience with cloud security and IT service management tools is a plus
Knowledge of data analytics and visualisation tools
Familiarity with educational IT systems is a plus
