A pharmacist intern’s role is to apply their academic knowledge to pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Their responsibilities include:
Preparing medications
Preparing medications for dispensing, including counting, measuring, and labeling
Patient interactions
Interviewing patients to get medication histories, providing basic medication information, and answering questions
Inventory management
Restocking medications, monitoring expiration dates, and handling pharmaceutical returns
Documentation
Maintaining accurate patient records and pharmacy documentation, including prescription files, medication histories, and adherence records
Developing professional attitude
Developing a mature and responsible attitude towards the practice of pharmacy, including dealing with the public and their colleagues in the healthcare team
Demonstrating pharmaceutical skills
Performing calculations and demonstrating pharmaceutical skills, such as weighing, trituration, and dilution
Contributing to pharmacy services
Contributing to the provision of pharmacy services, such as medicine and clinical information services, medicine utilization review, and protocol development
