Job Description
The In-House Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing strategic legal guidance across our business units, ensuring legal compliance, managing contracts, mitigating risks, and supporting business operations. This role requires a dynamic legal professional with strong business acumen who can work closely with multiple departments.
Job Responsibilities
General Legal Advisory & Compliance
Provide legal advice on company operations, contracts, policies, and regulatory compliance.
Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Conduct legal research and stay updated on legal trends affecting the business.
Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.
Contract Management
Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts, including vendor agreements, NDAs, partnership agreements, and service agreements.
Manage the contract lifecycle, ensuring compliance with terms and deadlines.
Maintain a contract database and track key obligations.
Intellectual Property & Data Privacy
Manage trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
Advise on intellectual property protection strategies.
Ensure compliance with data privacy laws and develop data protection policies.
Respond to data subject requests and manage data breaches.
Risk Management & Disputes
Identify and assess potential legal risks, developing mitigation strategies.
Advise on insurance coverage and claims.
Handle customer disputes, employment-related legal matters, and potential litigation.
Tech Academy-Specific Legal Support
Draft and review student enrollment agreements and instructor contracts.
Advise on accreditation, licensing, and educational compliance.
Ensure compliance with advertising and accessibility laws.
BizEdge-Specific Legal Support
Draft and review software licensing agreements, SaaS agreements, and SLAs.
Ensure compliance with data privacy laws concerning HR software.
Advise on employment law compliance within HRIS features.
Work with IT on cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.
Employment Law & Corporate Governance
Advise on employee contracts, policies, and HR compliance.
Assist with work visa applications and ensure immigration law compliance.
Support corporate governance, including board meetings and regulatory filings.
Real Estate & Property Management
Draft and negotiate commercial lease agreements.
Advise on tenancy agreements, property maintenance, and compliance.
Requirements, Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) and admission to the Nigerian Bar or relevant jurisdiction.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as an in-house legal counsel or in a corporate law firm.
Strong knowledge of contract law, corporate law, intellectual property, and employment law.
Experience in technology, SaaS, or education-related legal matters is a plus.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
