Overview of the Role

The head of school (HOS) manages the operations of the school and is responsible for ensuring the school runs smoothly, remains safe, and provides an excellent learning environment for students. The HOS must assume complete responsibility for the school and its performance
The HOS supervises all employees, including teachers, maintenance workers, administrative staff, and any other employee of the school
The HOS is also responsible for creating a positive environment by enforcing discipline to maintain safety as well as improve morale
The position of HOS is typically well-respected and highly regarded and each staff member and each teacher employed by the school ultimately reports to the HOS
A common task of the HOS is facilitating communication between employees, students, parents, the community, and both local and state governments
Given the responsibilities held by the HOS, there are several general skills and traits that are necessary to be an effective HOS.

Requirements

The successful candidate must be a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and subscribe to the bible as the word of God and exemplify high moral standards, integrity, commitment, loyalty and transparency.
Must have experience in both the classroom and school administration. More experience in administrative roles will be regarded as stronger for this role.   Must be a visionary that develops and builds high and very competitive standards
Must be comfortable in a position of authority and be able to effectively command a school and lead, in addition to managing people and resources effectively.
Must be an excellent communicator, both in written and verbal form.
The day-to-day tasks of a VPA HOS can be, but are not always, straightforward. The successful candidate will ensure the school is run properly by analyzing curricula and interpreting standardized test scores and then making the proper steps to improve a school’s performance.
Also, the HOS will analyze a school’s budget and make executive decisions on how to allocate funds. The HOS is responsible for creating a positive environment by enforcing discipline to maintain safety as well as improve morale.
The HOS must be confident since she is the public face of VPA. Must possess excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and decision-making skills. Should also be fair, patient, and understanding since she will be supervising teachers and faculty and an authority figure to students.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage complex relationships and develop relevant accountability metrics and success criteria.
A servant leader as well as a lifelong learner and an influencer.

Qualifications Should include, but not limited to below:

A successful candidate must possess an Undergraduate Degree in relevant areas from an accredited school.  Master’s Degree in relevant areas will be a preferred. Relevant areas include, but not limited to psychology, education, education leadership or education administration.
Experience to include leadership in a school environment and a solid understanding of curriculums. Knowledge of a hybrid of British Nigerian/American Nigerian curriculum is a preference.
A good understanding in the development and implementation of international standards of education and exposed to diversity of cultures.
Must possess a global and inclusive mindset with a firm understanding of how to handle and celebrate diversity for the enhancement of a common purpose.
