Graduate Trainee: Livestock/Poultry and Feedmill Supervisor

Location: Elele Rivers State 

Job Summary:

The Livestock Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a livestock facility. This role involves managing the care and welfare of animals, ensuring high standards of animal health, productivity, and safety. The Livestock Supervisor supervises the livestock team, coordinates feeding, breeding, and health programs, and maintains compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise Livestock Care:

Oversee the daily care, feeding, and maintenance of livestock, including poultry  etc.
Ensure proper handling, feeding, and care routines are followed to maintain animal health and welfare.

Team Leadership:

Lead and manage a team of livestock workers, providing direction, training, and support.
Monitor and evaluate team performance, conduct performance reviews, and ensure efficient workflows.

Animal Health Management:

Ensure regular health checks and vaccinations are performed.
Identify signs of illness or injury and coordinate treatments or medical attention with veterinarians.
Maintain health records for all livestock and report any abnormalities to management.

Feeding & Nutrition:

Oversee the implementation of proper feeding schedules and nutrition programs.
Coordinate with nutritionists to ensure livestock receive balanced diets and monitor feeding practices for optimal growth and development.

Breeding and Reproduction:

Supervise breeding programs to ensure the production of healthy offspring.
Manage the selection of breeding stock and oversee the care of pregnant animals.

Facility Maintenance:

Ensure that livestock facilities, including barns, pens, and fences, are well-maintained and safe.
Coordinate with maintenance teams to address any issues related to equipment or infrastructure.

Record Keeping & Compliance:

Maintain accurate records related to livestock, including health, breeding, feed, and production data.
Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal welfare, environmental standards, and safety practices.

Operational Support:

Assist with inventory management of feed, veterinary supplies, and other livestock-related resources.
Participate in budgeting and cost control to optimize operations while maintaining animal welfare standards.

Qualifications:

Education: A degree in animal science, agriculture, Veterinary Science, Zoology or related field preferred.
Experience: 1-3 Years relevant experience most especially in livestock farming and willingness to learn. 
Skills:

Strong knowledge of animal husbandry practices, livestock health, and nutrition.
Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
Good communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to livestock farming.

Working Conditions:

This role requires outdoor work and may involve long hours, including weekends and holidays.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and under physically demanding conditions.
Occasional travel may be required to attend training sessions or industry events.
Willing to relocate
