Working Condition: Field-based with extensive travel to project sites.

General Description and Job Brief

The Gender and Protection Assistant supports DHCBI’s efforts to integrate gender equality and protection principles across all project activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all beneficiaries. The role involves actively engaging with community members, conducting sensitization sessions, supporting protection initiatives, and maintaining robust mechanisms for preventing and addressing exploitation and abuse.

The Assistant will work closely with the Project Manager/Gender and Protection Officer to ensure the effective implementation of gender-sensitive and protection-focused strategies, particularly in the context of the Early Recovery Project in Malakyariri.

Responsibilities

Program Implementation

Assist in integrating gender equality and protection principles into all project activities.
Facilitate gender and protection awareness sessions for community members and project stakeholders.
Support the establishment of safe spaces for women, children, and vulnerable groups within the community.
Conduct protection assessments to identify risks and recommend mitigation measures.

Community Engagement

Engage with community leaders, women’s groups, and other stakeholders to promote gender-sensitive and protection-focused programming.
Foster community participation in protection initiatives, ensuring inclusive representation of women, youth, and marginalized groups.

Monitoring and Data Collection

Collect and document data on gender equality indicators and protection outcomes during field activities.
Maintain accurate records of gender and protection-related interventions, including beneficiary feedback and incident reports.

Reporting and Documentation

Provide regular updates to the Project Manager on gender and protection activities, challenges, and successes.
Document and share lessons learned to inform future programming.

Training and Capacity Building

Assist in the training of staff and community members on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and gender equality principles.
Support the development of IEC materials on gender and protection for community sensitization.

Complaint and Feedback Handling

Help establish and maintain safe and confidential feedback and reporting mechanisms for beneficiaries.
Promptly address gender and protection concerns raised by beneficiaries and escalate unresolved issues to the Project Manager.

Requirements

Applicant must be Mafa LGA Indigene 

Education:

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in gender and protection programming, preferably in humanitarian settings.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of gender and protection principles, including PSEA.
Excellent communication and community engagement skills.
Ability to collect and analyze gender-related and protection data.
Proficiency in using MS Office tools for reporting and documentation.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to work in remote field locations under challenging conditions.
Fluency in Hausa and/or Kanuri is an advantage.
