GBV Prevention Officer

LOCATION: PULKA, BORNO STATE

ABOUT THE JOB: 

The GBV Prevention Officer will lead efforts to design, implement, and manage gender-based violence (GBV) prevention programs within vulnerable communities. This role focuses on raising awareness, building local capacity, and fostering community engagement to reduce and prevent instances of GBV.

The Officer will collaborate with community members, leaders, volunteers, and partners to ensure the effective delivery of GBV prevention activities, including training, workshops, and mass awareness events.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implement GBV prevention programs, campaigns, and activities tailored to community needs.
Conduct assessments to identify GBV risks and design community-based interventions for vulnerable populations.
Collaborate with community members and leaders, and local organizations to raise awareness about GBV and promote access to services via an updated referral pathway.
Monitor, supervise, and build the capacity of community volunteers to carry out mobilization, sensitization, awareness-raising, and educational activities in camps and local communities.
Be the lead in planning and mobilizing communities for mass awareness campaigns and calendar events such as International Women’s Day, Girl Child Day, Day of African child and the 16 Days of Activism.
Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and dialogues on GBV prevention, gender equality, GBV Case Coordination (GBV CC), and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and work with stakeholders to develop action plans.
Provide training and support to staffs, and volunteers on GBV prevention and response strategies.
Equip community members and stakeholders with knowledge and tools to prevent GBV in their local contexts.
Participate in coordination meetings and networks focused on gender-based violence and women’s rights.
Engage in campaigns and policy dialogues to promote gender equality and protection for vulnerable groups.
Track progress of GBV prevention activities, gather data, and prepare reports on program outcomes.
Oversee the facilitation and implementation of GBV prevention strategies, such as male engagement activities, the SASA Together! approach, and other transformative programs. 
Support ongoing community engagement to promote acceptance of GBV prevention activities and approaches.

Qualification and Experience:

B.Sc./HND in; Gender studies, Social Sciences or related field.
Master’s Degree in above fields is an added advantage.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in gender transformative programming and mainstreaming preferably in a humanitarian and/or development context.
