General Description of the Position
Reporting to GBV Supervisor, The GBV Officer will be responsible for implementing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response activities within LABDI programs in Borno State.
This role involves providing direct support to survivors of GBV, facilitating prevention activities, and coordinating with other stakeholders to enhance the protection and well-being of affected populations.
The GBV Officer will work closely with local communities, healthcare providers, and other partners to strengthen GBV response mechanisms and promote gender equality.
The activities will be well integrated into North-East Nigerian protection system and humanitarian coordination practices and guidelines. The activities will be carried out in Borno State (Monguno Lga and Bama) areas according to the evolving needs of the project.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation:
Implement GBV prevention and response activities in line with LABDI strategic objectives and international standards.
Conduct community outreach and awareness-raising activities to prevent GBV and promote gender equality.
Facilitate training sessions for staff, volunteers, and community members on GBV prevention and response.
Case Management and Direct Support:
Provide direct support to GBV survivors, including case management, psychosocial support, and referrals to appropriate services.
Ensure that GBV case management services are confidential, survivor-cantered, and adhere to ethical standards.
Develop individualized case plans and follow up with survivors to ensure their needs are met.
Coordination and Collaboration:
Coordinate with local, national, and international agencies to ensure a cohesive GBV response.
Establish and maintain relationships with local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders involved in GBV response.
Participate in GBV coordination meetings and other relevant forums.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Collect and analyse data on GBV activities and outcomes and prepare regular reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Monitor the effectiveness of GBV programs and activities and provide recommendations for improvement.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of GBV cases and program activities.
Write monthly, quarterly and annual report.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Human Rights, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in GBV prevention and response, social work, or a related field, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
Experience in case management and providing direct support to GBV survivors.
Proven experience in community outreach and awareness-raising activities.
Skills:
Strong understanding of GBV principles, standards, and best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with survivors, staff, and stakeholders sensitively and respectfully.
Ability to work in challenging environments and under pressure.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Proficiency in using case management and data collection tools.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work in diverse cultural and political environments.
Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
