Job Overview
The Food Processing/Technology Engineer is responsible for applying engineering principles to the development, design, and optimization of processes used in food production.
This role involves working with various technologies and machinery to ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable food production.
The engineer will focus on improving food processing techniques, quality control, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize food processing systems and technologies for large-scale production.
Ensure that food production processes meet regulatory and safety standards, including hygiene and quality control.
Conduct research to develop new methods and technologies that improve food production efficiency and product quality.
Work closely with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the processing equipment.
Monitor and analyze production data to optimize performance and reduce costs.
Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure product quality standards are maintained.
Ensure that all food processing operations comply with industry standards and regulations and guidelines.
Develop and test prototypes for new food products or processing equipment.
Implement sustainable practices and explore energy-efficient technologies in the food production process.
Train and support production staff in the use of new equipment and processes.
Qualifications
Minimum of M.Sc degree in Food Processing Engineeirng, Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience in the construction supervision of medium to large scale food processing infrastructure development projects
Proven experience in working on projects financed by major multilaterial international lending aganecy (e.g WB, IsDB, AfDB, IFAD etc)
Must be registered with a professional body
Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, quality control, and process optimization.
Proficiency in CAD software for designing food processing systems (e.g., AutoCAD).
Familiarity with the use of industrial machinery and food processing equipment.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Hands-on experience on the use of Microsoft Office tools.
