Project Overview and Role

Palladium seeks a Driver for the five-year, USAID-funded Nigeria Integrated Health Program, an integrated health program with an expanded effort with the Government of Nigeria (GON) to identify and support rapid scale-up of proven interventions through improvement of service delivery and strengthening of health systems. It will focus its support for service delivery in six intervention areas: family planning, malaria, routine immunization, nutrition, maternal/newborn health, and treatment of childhood pneumonia/diarrhea. It has a strong emphasis on monitoring, evaluation and learning.
This program will work closely with state-level government officials to support established state-level Health and Development Plans, build capacity, and promote ownership of interventions, systems, and results. Specific interventions will need to be tailored to local contexts and will be fully developed at state and Local Government Area (LGA) levels. Through agreements with individual states, its potential breadth is the entire country with an emphasis on the north.
Key Responsibilities
The driver is engaged to convey staff and Project goods from one location to the other. He has responsibility to ensure that the vehicle he drives is functional and roadworthy at all times, to ensure smooth project ground logistics. Specifically, the driver:
Conveys staff, consultants and other authorized persons from one location to the other as may be directed.
Loads and conveys project goods from one location to the areas where they are needed as instructed or in the vehicle request form.
Ensure that vehicles are kept perfect and clean at all times by washing both the inside and outside parts of the vehicle
Carry out routine checks on vehicles and ensure they are sound
Recognize electrical and mechanical faults, records same in the vehicle log book and reports to supervisor.
Keep all records up to date on the log book.
Keep up a travel log to record areas travelled to, travel time, and work hours.
Takes vehicle to the mechanic workshop for repairs and tests repaired vehicle for correction of errors reported.
Performs minor and driver level diagnostic reviews of the vehicle as may be needed from time to time.
Support operations clerical duties while in the office.
Present positive image of the Project through good appearance and behavior in relating to staff, third parties and the public.
Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Requirements/Experience
At least five years cognate experience, three of which should be with an international organization.
Minimum qualification of Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
Certification. Valid driver’s license, with evidence of formal training on defensive driving and security.
Should be computer literate.
He/she should have sufficient and practical knowledge of National Highway Code.
Physical Strength: Should be strong and able to load and off load materials and equipment belonging to the project.
He/she must have a clean driving record.
