Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Construction Planner to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in Structural engineering, Civil engineering, or Project management and will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating all aspects of construction projects, particularly those in waterlogged or swampy environments.
This role requires a deep understanding of construction processes, timelines, and resource allocation, as well as the ability to manage multiple complex projects effectively in challenging terrains.
The Construction Planner will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and contractors to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
A key requirement for this role is the ability to interpret structural design documents and apply them to the construction planning process, particularly in environments where waterlogged or swampy conditions are present.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Scheduling: Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, and timelines for construction projects in waterlogged or swampy areas, ensuring that milestones and deadlines are met despite environmental challenges.
Resource Allocation: Coordinate the allocation of resources (materials, equipment, labor) in line with project needs, ensuring optimal efficiency and productivity in challenging terrain.
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Create and manage the work breakdown structure for projects, identifying key tasks and defining the sequence of activities required to achieve project goals, considering the impact of the swampy or waterlogged ground.
Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and financial projections for construction projects, ensuring that they align with overall project objectives and consider the unique challenges of working in swampy areas.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks to the project’s timeline, cost, or quality due to waterlogged or unstable ground conditions, and implement mitigation strategies to address and manage these risks effectively.
Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are well-coordinated and progressing as planned in difficult terrain.
Site Evaluation and Terrain Assessment: Conduct detailed site evaluations to assess soil stability, water levels, and other environmental factors that could impact construction in swampy or waterlogged areas.
Construction Sequencing: Develop and manage construction sequencing plans, ensuring the smooth and logical flow of activities to minimize downtime and prevent delays, considering the impact of wetland or swampy conditions on construction processes.
Change Management: Manage any changes to the scope, schedule, or resources, ensuring that adjustments are made and communicated to the relevant stakeholders.
Quality Control and Compliance: Ensure that construction activities comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and all relevant codes of practice for projects in swampy or waterlogged environments.
Contractor Coordination: Liaise with contractors to ensure that the project schedule and performance expectations are met. Review contractor proposals, including work breakdowns and timelines, and ensure they address environmental challenges like unstable ground and waterlogged conditions.
Interpreting Structural Design: Review and interpret structural design documents, plans, and drawings, ensuring that these designs are integrated into the construction planning process and align with the environmental constraints of swampy or waterlogged ground.
Project Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including reports, schedules, and updates, ensuring that all relevant information is tracked and readily accessible.
Preparation for Project Mobilization: Prepare detailed plans for site mobilization, ensuring that necessary resources, equipment, and safety measures are in place for working in waterlogged or swampy areas.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in construction planning or project management, with a strong background in structural engineering or civil engineering, particularly in waterlogged or swampy environments.
Structural Design Interpretation: Proficient in reading and interpreting structural design documents, plans, and drawings, and applying that understanding to construction planning and execution, especially in challenging terrains.
Project Management Expertise: Proven experience in planning, scheduling, and managing construction projects, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, especially in difficult environments.
Software Proficiency: Proficiency in construction planning software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Asta Powerproject, or similar.
Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of construction processes, engineering principles, and project management best practices, especially related to construction in swampy or waterlogged areas.
Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and coordinate project teams. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with all project stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Ability to anticipate project challenges, particularly those related to swampy or waterlogged conditions, and devise practical solutions to maintain project schedules and budgets.
Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, ensuring all aspects of the construction project are planned accurately and efficiently.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry regulations, standards, and safety requirements relevant to construction projects in challenging environments like wetlands and swampy terrains.
Preferred Skills:
Certifications: Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), Prince2, or RICS would be an asset.
Experience in Structural Design: Experience in structural engineering design and an understanding of the technical requirements of construction in challenging terrains, including waterlogged or swampy environments.
Cost Control Experience: Experience with cost management and budgeting, including change orders, claims, and estimating project costs in environments with challenging conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in an office and on-site environments, coordinating with teams, and conducting site visits in swampy or waterlogged terrains as necessary.
Willingness to travel to project sites for coordination and monitoring progress.
