Job Summary
The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) is responsible for leading the development, execution, and oversight of an organization’s strategic initiatives.
The candidate will act as key adviser and work closely with the Group Managing Director to drive growth, innovation, and long-term success.
The CSO ensures that the company’s strategic vision aligns with its operations and market opportunities.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Development:
Lead the development of the company’s long-term strategy.
Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and business performance to identify growth opportunities and risks.
Collaborate with leadership to define the company’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
Innovation & Business Development:
Identify and explore new business opportunities, including mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and product innovations.
Foster an environment of creativity and forward-thinking to drive competitive advantage.
Market and Industry Analysis:
Conduct research on industry trends, competitors, and market conditions.
Provide insights and recommendations to help the organization adapt and thrive in evolving markets.
Cross-Departmental Leadership:
Work closely with other senior leaders (e.g. CEO, CFO, COO, CMO) to ensure the strategic plan is implemented effectively across departments.
Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on company priorities.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
Set key performance indicators (KPIs) and track the performance of strategic initiatives.
Provide regular reports to the MD and board of directors on progress, outcomes, and adjustments to strategy.
Strategic Communications & Strategy Execution:
Communicate the company’s strategy to stakeholders, including employees, investors, and partners.
Build consensus around key strategic initiatives and ensure organizational buy-in.
Risk Management:
Identify potential risks related to the strategic plan and propose mitigation strategies.
Monitor changes in market dynamics and ensure the organization is prepared for external shifts.
Board & Executive Collaboration:
Act as a key advisor to the Group Managing Director and the board of directors on matters relating to strategic direction and major initiatives.
Present strategic initiatives and results during board meetings and other executive sessions.
Job Requirements, Skills & Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or a related field
Master’s Degree is an added advantage
20 years’ experience in strategic planning, business development with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a CSO or in related role.
Proven track record of driving business growth and delivering successful strategic initiatives.
Experience working in a fast-paced or high-growth environment is a plus.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of market research, competitive analysis, and financial modeling.
