Job Summary

The Business Development Manager Power is responsible for driving growth and identifying new opportunities related to power and partnerships. This role requires strategic planning, relationship-building, and a deep understanding of the energy sector. The incumbent collaborates with the company’s management team to ensure that corporate and business strategies remain relevant and that satisfactory progress is being made toward successful execution. The BDM, Power is tasked with driving business growth by spearheading new business opportunities, capital investment initiatives, operational improvements, and strategic alliances within the power sector. He/she will conduct financial analysis and valuations to support planning and strategy formulation. This role involves analyzing specific strategies, technologies, and markets through the development of financial models, databases, and risk assessment tools. Additionally, the BDM Power, is directly responsible for market, competitor, and industry analysis, benchmarking, project proposals, cost analysis, and business planning.

Job Details

Scope of Responsibility and Accountability:

Strategic

Identify and pursue new business opportunities in power, including renewable energy projects, electricity generation, and distribution.
Acting as Business Opportunity Manager and coordinating the maturation of various business opportunities.
Actively involved in the development of long- and short-term business goals, objectives and targets as part of the Company’s planning and budgeting process.
Lead the market research activities to identify trends, emerging technologies, and new business opportunities in the power and energy sector.
Work with business managers and teams on the development and documentation of functional strategic plans which are presented to the Executive Management and Board for approval.
Manage the building and nurturing of partnerships with other companies, particularly for non-operated ventures where the business is a stakeholder but not the primary operator.
Communicates key information to stakeholders across Axxela Limited as regards marketplace needs, the competitive environment, cost management, and the provision of high-quality customer-focused products and services.
Oversee the gathering, analyzing and disseminating information on relevant energy policies involving federal and state regulatory matters.
Presents viable business opportunities to the executive management team and investment review committee when required.
Negotiating terms and establishing joint venture agreements, partnership terms, or investment frameworks that align with the company’s objectives.
Identify changes in the economic and business environment that may potentially warrant modifications to the Company’s business and operational support strategies and keeps internal stakeholders informed of organizational and environmental changes and trends that may have an impact on the Company’s current and future performance.
Engage stakeholders, including partners, government agencies, regulators, and local communities, to build strong relationships and support for power and energy projects.

Operational

Develops comprehensive strategies for marketing, sales, and operations management, along with business plans, budgets, and supporting policies.
Facilitates the alignment of the Company’s strategic objectives with daily operations across functional areas.
Coordinates the annual strategic planning and budgeting process and assists the Financial Controller with the 5-year business plan, financial forecasting, and variance analysis.
Leads sub-teams in business planning and analysis, supporting the formulation and documentation of recommendations for executive and senior management review.
Oversees the development of financial models and analytical frameworks to support strategic planning and validate management assumptions.
Designs and implements tools for strategy execution and integrated power business performance measurement.
Conduct market, competitor, and industry analyses to identify new growth opportunities in power and non-operated ventures.
Analyzes potential business improvements through economic, commercial, technical, and financial assessments, following best-practice methodologies.
Drives the communication, execution, and monitoring of corporate and functional strategies.
Collaborates with business managers to negotiate and finalize business agreements and contracts effectively.
Partners with the Legal team to fulfill collaborative and contractual obligations to third-party stakeholders.
Engages with relevant internal stakeholders on Request for Proposal/Quotation (RFP/RFQ) processes for new opportunities, monitors progress and analyzes technical and commercial bids.
Conducts research and manages company data to support business development initiatives and knowledge management.
Performs other assigned duties as needed to support business development and operational objectives.

Requirements

1st degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics, or other related field with a minimum of second-class grade. 
Minimum of 10 years work experience, at least 2 of which must have been in a similar role or Financial Planning and Analysis, Management Consulting, Corporate Finance, Investment/Commercial Analysis within a reputable and structured business environment, preferably in the Power, Oil & Gas or Energy industry.
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage financial models and other complex analysis in Excel and present results in an easy-to-understand format.
Knowledge and understanding of the Nigerian Power sector.
