Under the direct supervision of the Country Coordinator, the incumbent Area Coordinator is responsible for providing strong leadership in the Management of the MI programme in Pulka. Working closely with and in support of Pulka-based staff, the Area Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that there is adequate, sustained, and consistent support to staff to plan and implement WASH, Protection (GBV) and food security activities and address emerging needs themselves. She/he is responsible for ensuring there is understanding to comply with agreed international and donor Standards and Guidelines in Project planning and implementation. Working closely with MI staff, the Area Coordinator will ensure strong coordination in achieving programme deliverables. The Area Coordinator is responsible for ensuring close coordination with all Stakeholders Close Monitoring of overall context and cascading any issues that need the attention of the Senior Coordination and Management Team at the Country Office in Maiduguri.
Main Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Implementation
Jointly work with Country Office Technical staff to develop an actionable, realistic and detailed implementation plan, aligned to aims, and objectives of planned and ongoing projects.
In close coordination and robust collaboration with MI Senior Management and Coordination Team, ensure smooth implementation of project activities as per the agreed detailed implementation plan.
Work closely with, the MI Country Programme Coordinator in oversighting the roll-out of the project monitoring plan, ensuring that agreed performance indicators are realised.
In close collaboration with Technical MI staff, ensure high-quality programme, including compliance to donor standards, as well as adequate participation of beneficiaries and accountability mechanisms.
Monitor changes in context including security, ensure shared analysis with the project partners and cascade any issues for consideration with the MI Senior and Coordination Team
Lead Area planning for future complementary projects.
Compliance
Ensure key project deliverables, i.e., reports, and relevant donor guidelines are complied with.
In close coordination with the Programme Administrator, ensure compliance with MI and donor operational guidelines, i.e., logistics, finance, and human resources.
Representation
Represent MI and Project interests specific to project implementation in Pulka. Pro-actively participate in sector meetings as per project scope, and other general coordination meetings. r. Enhance and create opportunities for MI and ongoing or /and planned projects. Keep abreast of technical development and conversations, in particular regarding WASH, Protection and future project development in food security and other sectors.
Build and maintain relationships and effective coordination with like-minded NGOs, the UN, local authorities, government, and beneficiary communities.
Cascade key issues and outcomes from coordination to MI Senior Management; and HQ as appropriate
Project human and financial resources management
Manage MI Project staff as per agency policies and procedures.
Ensure project teams are supported to perform to expected MI standards and demands of the Project.
Hold regular team meetings to enhance coordination and communication.
Oversight of programme budgets and resources for the Area programme and inputs to budget controls
Oversight of Area project expenditure and monitoring budget to actual expenditure in coordination with the Programme Administrator
Overall Support
As a Senior Management Team member, be available to provide proactive support to other areas as needed and as directed by the Country Coordinator.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience
At least 5 years with an INGO in a developing country and/or humanitarian context
Excellent project management, partnership management and coordination experience and skills
Analytical, systems thinking and critical thinking skills, with a capacity to see the big picture and the ability to make sound judgments and decisions.
Capacity to work consistently with a genuine interest in learning
Pro-active, resourceful, solutions and results oriented.
Field Team management experience and capacity to work with and lead project teams working with partners to deliver an innovative programme.
Ability to work effectively with local governments.
Strong communication skills
Security and safety as well as resource management experience
Commitment to MI values and standards
Ability to cope in stressful and hostile work environments; willingness to travel to (deep) field locations and conduct partner visits.
