Account Officer

Position Summary

The Accountant Officer is responsible for managing core financial and accounting functions, ensuring accurate record-keeping, compliance with financial regulations, and the integrity of the organization’s financial data.
The role supports the company’s financial health by overseeing bookkeeping, reconciliations, compliance filings, and budget performance.

Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping and Ledger Management:

Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions in the accounting system.
Perform reconciliations, journal entries, and nominal ledger updates promptly and accurately.

Receivables Monitoring:

Implement and support measures to ensure effective monitoring and collection of company receivables.

Bank Reconciliation and Cash Management:

Process cash book transactions and prepare timely bank reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Fixed Asset Management:

Maintain and update the fixed asset register, ensuring assets are properly valued, recorded, and safeguarded.

Budget Monitoring and Analysis:

Assist in monitoring budget performance by conducting variance analysis and performance evaluation.

Financial Reporting:

Support the preparation of year-end financial statements and periodic accounts as required.

Compliance and Statutory Filings:

Compute and remit statutory deductions (e.g., PAYE, pensions) accurately and on time.
Assist in the preparation and filing of WHT and VAT returns.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Timeliness and accuracy of financial reports and reconciliations.
Effective monitoring and reduction of outstanding receivables.
Compliance with statutory filing deadlines.
Accurate maintenance of the fixed asset register and budget tracking.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or HND in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Certifications: Professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) is an advantage.
Experience: 2 – 4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the agricultural industry.

Skills and Attributes:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Good understanding of financial regulations and statutory requirements.
Effective communication and organizational skills.
