Vision Spring addresses the critical need for clear vision among professionals who rely on precise sight—such as textile workers, tailors, rug makers, bike mechanics, weavers, artisans, and others—whose livelihoods depend on their ability to see clearly. The loss of near vision during their most productive years can severely hinder their earning potential and ability to provide for their families. At its core, Vision Spring was founded on a simple yet profound truth: *”If you can’t see, you can’t work.”* Since then, the organization has expanded its mission to include the distribution of prescription eyeglasses, recognizing another vital principle: *”If you can’t see, you can’t learn.”*

Research in China has shown that providing vision correction to primary school students is comparable to adding an extra 1/3 to 1/2 year of education. Despite the transformative potential this holds for underserved communities—particularly the working poor and students in the developing world—the market has consistently failed to adequately serve this demographic, often referred to as the Bop (Base of the Pyramid) consumer.
