"RUTH: A premier government-owned healthcare provider in Rivers State."
Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RUTH), previously known as Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH), is a public healthcare facility. Named in honor of Eld red Current Braithwaite, a distinguished British surgeon and medical pioneer, the hospital is situated in Old GRA, a well-known district of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. RUTH operates under the jurisdiction of the Rivers State Hospital Management Board.
Established in March 1925 as Braithwaite Memorial Hospital, the institution initially functioned as a medical center catering to senior civil servants. Over time, it evolved into a General Hospital and later attained the designation of a “Specialist Health Institution” before being officially renamed Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
