About NEM Insurance PLC

NEM INSURANCE PLC initiated its insurance operations in Nigeria in 1948 under the auspices of Edward Turner & Co. In 1965, it transitioned into a Nigerian branch of NEM General Insurance Association Limited, based in London. The company was formally incorporated as a Nigerian entity in 1970, adhering to the provisions of the Companies Decree of 1968. It subsequently achieved a significant milestone in 1989 by being listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, following the Federal Government of Nigeria’s privatization initiative.

Renowned for its substantial contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s insurance sector, the company operates in both life and non-life insurance segments. In alignment with regulatory recapitalization reforms, it merged with Vigilant Insurance Company Ltd to broaden its portfolio and underwrite all classes of general insurance.

Further solidifying its regional presence, NEM INSURANCE PLC expanded into West Africa by establishing and launching operations of its subsidiary, NEM INSURANCE (GHANA) LIMITED, in May 2009.
