"Launched in 1989, now reaching millions globally."
The vision of Dr. D. K. Olukoya led to the official launch of the mission in July 1989, beginning with 24 members. Today, the church has grown to encompass millions of worshipers worldwide, with over 250,000 attending services at the headquarters alone and an average of at least 30,000 in most of its global branches. The MFM conducts missionary activities across more than 40 countries, spanning Africa, Europe, the USA, Canada, and Asia. As a Christian missionary organization, the MFM operates as a full gospel ministry dedicated to reviving apostolic signs, manifesting the Holy Ghost’s power, and demonstrating God’s unlimited strength to deliver completely. The ministry emphasizes absolute holiness as both an internal and external priority, teaching it as the ultimate defense against spiritual corruption and a necessary condition for eternal salvation. The overarching vision of the MFM is to liberate individuals—both men and women—from all forms of oppression and bondage through biblical teachings and aggressive prayer strategies aimed at fostering victorious living.
The vision’s emphasis on spiritual development led to the establishment of the Spiritual War College—the MFM’s Bible College—in 1995, followed by the creation of the Deliverance School. This expansion later evolved into the Institute of Spiritual Warfare (INSTAR), officially inaugurated on November 7, 2002. INSTAR now encompasses 14 specialized departments, including Biblical Studies, Deliverance, Prayer, Ministry, Evangelism and Church Planting, Discipleship and Missions, Languages and Culture, Spiritual Red Cross, Counseling, The Prophets, Power and Healing, Church Music, Praise and Worship, and Children’s Education. INSTAR’s leadership programs have drawn participants from diverse professional backgrounds, including civil servants, medical professionals, engineers, academics, military personnel, legal practitioners, journalists, business executives, and diplomats. The ultimate aim is to establish a fully equipped higher education institution where aspiring Nigerians can cultivate their intellectual potential, translate it into practical skills, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s socio-economic progress. This vision ultimately gave rise to Mountain Top University, named in honor of the founding ministry.
The establishment of Mountain Top University was made possible by the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Decree No. 9 of 1993, which repealed the earlier Decree No. 19 of 1984 and introduced new regulations for private universities. Since then, seventeen private universities have been licensed to operate alongside public institutions.
