"Global community philanthropy for sustainable impact."
Acumen was established on April 1, 2001, with initial funding from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Cisco Systems Foundation, and three individual philanthropists. Our mission was to revolutionize philanthropy by recognizing all individuals as part of a unified, global community, each deserving the chance to lead a dignified life. The organization employs “Patient Capital”—an approach that combines the efficiency and scalability of market-driven strategies with the profound social impact of traditional philanthropy—to invest in entrepreneurs who develop sustainable solutions to critical challenges in poverty alleviation.
