Basic Function:

This role involves managing the treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM), both with and without complications, delivering nutrition rehabilitation to inpatients, and preventing further decline through the administration of therapeutic feeds and both routine and specialized medications. Additionally, the position entails conducting health and nutrition counseling and enhancing the skills of CAM assistants through targeted capacity-building initiatives.

Oversee and perform various tasks associated with the role, ensuring all operational and strategic objectives are met with precision. Undertake responsibilities that include managing daily activities, coordinating with stakeholders, and delivering consistent results aligned with organizational goals. Handle key functions such as planning, execution, and evaluation of projects to drive efficiency and productivity. Address challenges proactively, ensuring solutions are implemented to maintain workflow integrity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster alignment and achieve collective targets. Maintain adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards throughout all processes.

The role encompasses leading community outreach initiatives, conducting mid-upper arm circumference screenings, and actively identifying cases of malnutrition among children under five years of age. Within target communities and internally displaced persons camps, the incumbent will provide Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) services, including defaulter tracing, follow-up visits, and delivering essential health education messages at OTP sites. They will also oversee the timely identification of complications and non-responders, ensuring adherence to referral protocols for stabilization center (SC) admissions based on established criteria.

Additionally, the position involves developing a Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CAM) work plan, analyzing malnutrition trends using admission data, and conducting mortality audits at the OTP. The individual will collaborate with the M&E unit during assessments, focus group discussions, and the preparation and submission of timely reports. Responsibilities also include ensuring accurate documentation of services, continuous monitoring of OTP performance metrics, and effective management of severely acutely malnourished (SAM) children with complications at the Stabilization Centre.

The incumbent will ensure correct clinical diagnoses, comprehensive health assessments, and adherence to treatment protocols throughout the program. They will verify strict compliance with admission, discharge, and transfer criteria between OTP and SC facilities. Daily ward rounds, development of a 24-hour call-duty roster for CAMPS assistants, and weekly and monthly inventory checks of nutrition supplies will be required to maintain stock levels and pre-position essential medical and food supplies in coordination with logistics.

Overseeing the preparation of therapeutic milk and food for SAM children and caregivers, the individual will work closely with CAM assistants at the SC to ensure protocol adherence, proper referrals to and from the OTP, and comprehensive health monitoring, including vitals checks, medication administration, and adherence to treatment guidelines. Timely reporting of progress and challenges, responding to technical inquiries regarding program admissions and discharges, and updating patient records—including critical care pathway (CCP) cards and OTP follow-up cards—will be essential for tracking patient progress.

The role also entails providing health education messages to beneficiaries in alignment with protocols, compiling statistical data (admissions, defaults, cures, absences, deaths), and drafting activity reports. The incumbent will support SMART, SQUEAK, and other nutrition surveys at the LGA level, with all other duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities include contributing to cross-functional projects, assisting with process improvements, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Duties may also encompass collaborating with various teams to streamline workflows, identifying opportunities for efficiency gains, and maintaining high standards of accuracy in all tasks. The role may require participation in strategic planning sessions, providing support during peak periods, and adhering to company policies and compliance standards. Additionally, the position could involve training and mentoring colleagues, managing multiple priorities simultaneously, and delivering consistent performance under tight deadlines.

The responsibilities of this position extend beyond the outlined duties, with the employee expected to undertake additional related tasks as assigned. Furthermore, the employee will be responsible for reporting progress and communicating the successful completion of specific tasks assigned to them.
