House Parent

Job Description

Meadow Hall seeks to recruit a house parent. The House Parent is a member of the pastoral team and the residential team responsible for the effective operation of the Boarding School.
She is responsible for the overall well-being of each boarding student and maintenance of the Boarding facility.
She acts ‘in loco parentis’ and reports directly to the Vice Principal (Pastoral). She maintains a very good relationship with Pastoral staff, House Parents and students.

General Duties

Responsible for housekeeping: maintaining a clean and sterile environment.
Act as matron/nurse for the students in the hostel when the school nurse is off duty.
Responsible for the care and safety of the boarders;
Will inform herself about the general background and specific needs of all boarders;
Will ensure that all policies are known, recognised and implemented by the Boarding staff so that all rules and procedures are well established;
Will be very careful to ensure that all permissions from parents will be adhered to by the House parents;
Will together with other house parents ensure proper supervision of boarders in the study hall, the dormitories and the dining room;
Is key to the physical, personal, academic, social and spiritual development of the boarders and will be keen to identify problems and needs so that every individual receives the necessary help and support;
Notifies the VP (pastoral) of any accident, injury or other unforeseen circumstance involving boarders that occurs on or off school premises or at school events;
Is to work with the VP (pastoral) to ensure Health and Safety is maintained in the hostel.
Is to ensure that the students are happy in the boarding house
Coordinate Boarding Services; Catering, Transport, Maintenance, House Keeping and Laundry:

Works with Catering to ensure food provision is healthy , nutritious and delivered on time
Works with Housekeeping to ensure hygiene, domestic arrangements are planned adequately and the environment is neat and tidy at all times.
Ensure that drivers and transport are available when needed
Ensure that quality laundry services are delivered to students on time.

Complete requisition form for items required by dorm staff
Directly manage the work of the cleaning personnel
Take inventory on stocks to ensure adequate supplies
Make recommendation to improve services and ensure efficient operation

Person Specification

Must be God-fearing
Must be mature
Passionate about and dedicated to boarding.
Innovative thinker and a flexible approach.
Ability to relate to adolescents

Essential Competencies

Must be a registered nurse
Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the philosophies of Meadow Hall School.
Excellent computer skills, including high level proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills to liaise with staff, students, parents and with the public generally.
Good understanding of Work, Health and Safety requirements
