Job purpose
The NOC Engineer is responsible for designing and optimizing eStream Core IP network which supports various connectivity solutions such as internet, VPN, IP Telephony, Data Center Managed & Hosted services, IPTV and VoIP.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Insight and Integration
Assist the NPO manager to achieve the corporate objectives
Attend project & departmental meetings
Provide inputs to the departmental annual budget
Provide technological innovation to improve core network processes and network support for new products
Technical / Analysis and Problem Solving
Constant review of core network design with a view to optimize the network
Responsible for configuring core and edge routers for design implementation as well as BTS integration
Responsible for maintaining BGP peerings with Upstream providers and downstream clients
Provide technical solutions to network issues escalated to the 2nd level.
Responsible for maintaining policies on the bandwidth manager
Ensure that hardware and software systems are fully deployed, implemented and functioning.
Ensure scheduled maintenance are carried out
Ensure all resolvable issues (within the control of the department) are resolved on time
Leadership:
Team lead for special core network projects
support the global monitoring of infrastructure systems and applications on a 24x7x365 basis.
Responsible for scheduling and implementing quarterly maintenance of Core devices.
Interpersonal, Relationship Management & Collaboration
Liaise with 3rd party vendors to deliver projects
Partner with Service Deployment and Product Development teams to provide solutions to clients
Communication:
Escalate service impacting issues outside span of control to the NPO Manager.
Deliver weekly reports on the status of the network
Generate and submit periodic project and operational reports to the NPO Manager for informed decision making
Customer Focus:
Monitor the core network to provide 99% service availability
Financial Management
Recommend & Implement cost saving initiatives
Requirements Education & Work Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Electronics Engineering or related field
Minimum of 5 years work experience in a relevant role.
Network experience in an ISP environment or a Systems Integration company with specialization in enterprise and service provider routing and switching solutions.
Affiliation with relevant professional bodies
Competency, Skills & Certifications
CCNP Routing & Switching/SP
At least 3 years practical experience in managing and implementing network solutions using OSPF and BGP routing protocols
At least 3 years experience in deploying MPLS L2VPN and L3VPN solutions for clients
Relationship & People Management
KPIs:
Achievement of 99% Availability of core networks devices and base station backhauls
Successful delivery of approved network expansion and optimization projects within the time and budgets constraints
Resolution of escalated incidents within 30 minutes of escalation
Number of new technological initiatives
Working conditions
The incumbent may be required to sit in cold (air conditioned) rooms for a long time.
The incumbent may be required to travel out of station often.
