MAIN FUNCTIONS
Interpret and synthesize geological data to deliver expert well-site geological support during oil field drilling operations. This role encompasses optimizing the placement of horizontal well bores, compiling comprehensive final well reports, updating horizontal well cross-sections, maps, and formation evaluation logs for both recent and historical wells. Additionally, provide geological expertise to interdisciplinary reservoir studies and field development initiatives. Mentor and develop junior staff members to enhance their technical proficiency.

The well site geologist is primarily tasked with overseeing all well site geological personnel and operations, including mud logging, Logging While Drilling (LWD), wirelike services, and core handling/processing, while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all geological data acquisition and reporting.
Well site Geological Services encompass the on-site geological expertise and support provided throughout drilling operations, ensuring real-time data analysis and decision-making to optimize reservoir evaluation and well placement. This role demands a strong foundation in geology, proficiency with specialized software and tools, and the ability to interpret subsurface data promptly. Responsibilities include monitoring drilling parameters, identifying geological formations, and advising on potential hazards or productive zones. Candidates should possess a degree in geology or a related field, relevant industry experience, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with drilling teams and stakeholders.

You will be responsible for preparing and submitting reports, ensuring they are accurate, comprehensive, and delivered on time to meet organizational and stakeholder requirements. This role involves compiling data from various sources, analyzing trends, and presenting insights in a clear and concise manner. When necessary, conducting thorough reviews of geological service operations to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Compilation and Dissemination of Well Completion Reports • Management of Well site Geological Operations (“Operations Geologist”): Oversee, supervise, and execute company-operated well site geotechnical activities.
Pre-drill planning encompasses the systematic preparation and strategic evaluation required before initiating any drilling operation. This process involves analyzing geological data, assessing subsurface risks, and optimizing drilling parameters to enhance efficiency and safety. Collaboration with geologists, engineers, and operational teams is essential to ensure alignment with project objectives. Additionally, it requires meticulous resource allocation, timeline management, and adherence to regulatory and environmental standards. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of drilling technologies, risk assessment methodologies, and project-specific constraints to deliver a well-informed and executable plan.
Acts as the liaison for external geological service providers, facilitating seamless communication and coordination between the organization and third-party vendors.
Monitor and oversee the acquisition and analysis of geological data at the well site, ensuring accuracy and efficiency throughout the process. Disseminate critical findings and updates to relevant stakeholders and actively engage in scheduled teleconferences and meetings to facilitate clear communication. Additionally, conduct thorough reviews and verifications of invoices related to geological services to confirm their accuracy and compliance.
Post-drill duties involve organizing and overseeing the transportation of samples, logs, and reports, in addition to executing specialized or temporary assignments.
Conducting ongoing monitoring of abnormal pressure conditions is essential to ensure operational safety and efficiency. This role involves the systematic analysis of pressure data to detect anomalies that could indicate potential hazards or inefficiencies in the system. Responsibilities include maintaining real-time surveillance, interpreting pressure trends, and promptly reporting any deviations to relevant stakeholders. The position requires a strong understanding of pressure dynamics, familiarity with monitoring equipment, and the ability to respond swiftly to critical situations. A background in engineering or a related technical field, along with experience in pressure management systems, is preferred.
Monitor and record all abnormal pressure parameters in a pressure evaluation log, ensuring these entries are reviewed with the company operations geologist and drilling supervisors as necessary.
Compiling comprehensive reports that include various parameters, key observations, and thorough interpretations, followed by their distribution to relevant stakeholders, is a core responsibility.
Must possess strong analytical skills with proficiency in data interpretation and problem-solving. Experience with financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is mandatory, with a minimum of five years in a relevant financial or analytical role. Familiarity with ERP systems, advanced Excel (including pivot tables and LOOKUP), and financial software is highly desirable. Demonstrated leadership in managing financial projects and driving process improvements is a key asset. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines without compromising accuracy are critical.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology from an accredited and reputable university is required.
With a proven background in the role of a Well site Geologist, you will bring hands-on expertise to execute critical geological evaluations during drilling operations. Your responsibilities will include real-time formation evaluation, monitoring drilling parameters, and advising on geological hazards to ensure optimal well placement and safety. Proficient in both written and spoken English with strong organizational and coordination abilities, capable of collaborating effectively with colleagues.
Offshore experience encompassing drilling operations on platforms and deviated wells, utilizing advanced technologies such as Logging While Drilling (LWD) and While Drilling (WL), is required.
Maintains robust physical fitness and adheres to all project health and safety protocols, including any mandatory rig- or country-specific certifications required for offshore work.
Successfully completed an OPITO-certified Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (DUET), sea survival, and helicopter safety (HS) course within the last two years, with all certifications remaining valid for the entirety of the project duration.
Seeking proficiency in mud logging techniques, including detailed cuttings analysis and real-time image log interpretation; entails correlating findings to accurately determine lithology and well path.
Proficiency in directional drilling techniques, well planning procedures, and depth control measurement systems is essential, along with a solid grasp of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) configurations and functionality.
Successfully performed coring operations in previous roles.
Proficiency in collaborating within integrated asset team frameworks is required.
Proficiency in utilizing structural geology principles and techniques to evaluate reservoir compartmentalization and fluid communication pathways is required.
Professionals should have a background in collaborating with geologic modelers to integrate geological maps and their interpretations into three-dimensional geologic models.
