Chief Accountant

Position Summary:

As a key member of the Executive Management team, the Chief Accountant will report to the chairman and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company.
The CA will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, forecasting, strategic planning and controlling all accounting activities of both financial and management accounting.
He/she is responsible for preparing financial and performance reports, assisting departments with annual budgets and reviews, internal control and tax reporting activities of the company.

Responsibility

As part of the management team, the chief accountant handles his/her team in resolving conflicts, delegating and organizing tasks, as well as motivating and leading teams during project developments.
Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization. Evaluates and advises on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/ strategies and regulatory action.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions.
Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the Company Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
Other tasks of the chief accountants include but not limited to: monitoring financial position, financial performance and cash flows of the company; revising any discrepancies of reports; and checking the company’s assets and liabilities that could affect its equity in the future.

Education and Training Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance or a similar field and possess  10+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, preferably in transportation, courier  haulage industry.
Possession of a master’s degree in accounting is desirable. 
Must hold accounting certification such as ICAN; ACCA

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

The chief accountant must be able to meet the demands of an ever-changing business environment.
He/she must have a critical mind in identifying and defining clearly the problem, evaluating different ideas or ways of solving the problem from the data gathered.
He/she should also have extensive knowledge in fast-paced technologies and accounting programs and possess excellent mathematical skills; ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
Presentation, team-building skills, time management and organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as leadership and administrative skills.
High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation

Other Skills & Abilities:PC proficiency is essential (Windows environment) and strong working knowledge of  Excel is preferred and knowledge of  accounting soft ware.
Salary range: N200,000-N350,000 depending on qualification
