Job Purpose
As Midpoint’s Senior Legal Counsel for Contracts, you will serve as the lead architect for high-stakes commercial agreements, shaping the foundation of our most critical partnerships. Your role is to enable rapid execution and foster innovation while upholding stringent standards for security and regulatory adherence.
This position goes beyond mere risk identification, focusing instead on developing innovative, evidence-based, and straightforward solutions to advance the company’s objectives. You will spearhead our strategies for navigating intricate technology agreements, corporate finance initiatives, and mergers and acquisitions, guaranteeing that each contract aligns with our expertise and reinforces our commitment to fostering financial well-being.
Oversee a comprehensive range of critical duties, including the management of daily operations, strategic project execution, and cross-functional team leadership to drive organizational objectives. Collaborate with senior stakeholders to identify growth opportunities, implement process improvements, and ensure alignment with business goals. Monitor performance metrics, report on key indicators, and provide data-driven recommendations to enhance efficiency and productivity. Serve as a primary liaison between departments, fostering seamless communication and coordination to achieve collective targets. Develop and nurture high-performing teams through mentorship, training, and performance evaluations, while maintaining a focus on talent retention and development. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and ethical standards to uphold organizational integrity and reputation.
Spearhead the development, negotiation, and finalization of intricate commercial contracts, encompassing SaaS agreements, licensing arrangements, and payment collaborations.
Deliver precise, easily understandable legal advice regarding contractual risk and liability, ensuring complex concepts are broken down without technical jargon. Clarify the reasoning behind specific provisions to enhance comprehension and decision-making.
Develop scalable solutions by designing and sustaining standardized contract templates and operational playbooks to ensure uniform, efficient legal processes worldwide.
Safeguard our intellectual property by providing strategic guidance on intellectual property matters, licensing frameworks, and data security protocols to maintain exclusive ownership of Moniepoint’s innovations.
Lead corporate finance initiatives by providing strategic legal guidance for debt and equity financing, while overseeing the full legal lifecycle of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and investment transactions.
Partner with industry specialists, including finance, strategy, and external consultants, to guarantee seamless and accurate execution of our transactions.
Ensure operational excellence by overseeing contractual health, verifying adherence to obligations, and proactively adapting to evolving regulatory requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. A minimum of three years of experience in software development, preferably with expertise in Python, Java, or C++. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills are necessary to troubleshoot technical issues. Excellent communication skills are needed to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies is a plus. The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is critical.
With a specialization in technology and intricate contract negotiations, candidates must possess eight to eleven years of hands-on experience in commercial law.
Hold an LL.B degree and a Qualifying Certificate from the Nigerian Law School.
Proven track record of successfully leading corporate finance initiatives and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions.
A comprehensive grasp of the regulatory environment within fintech or banking is essential.
Expertise in crafting documents that are concise, straightforward, and legally sound is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical training. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Familiarity with project management methodologies. Prior experience in a leadership or mentorship capacity is a plus. Knowledge of data analysis and reporting techniques. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. Minimum of two years in a high-growth scale-up or international fintech organization.
Demonstrated expertise in handling significant financial transactions spanning diverse legal jurisdictions.
