The Chief Accountant is a senior member of the Finance and Administration department reporting directly to the Chief Finance Officer. S/he ensures the overall supervision of the section, safeguards the company’s physical and financial assets with the aim of maximizing returns. S/he reviews the inventory as well as (he accounts records. S/he further oversees the smooth running of the department in the absence of the CFO/Finance Manager.
Duties
Supervise the preparation, recording, control, monitoring, maintenance and reconciliation of financial transactions and provide overall management of the accounts of the company
Ensure timely preparation and fair presentation of accounting records, financial statements and tax/statutory withholding returns in accordance with internal procedures and policies, IFRS accounting standards and all applicable regulatory requirements and avail financial reports and records to Management, the Board or other stakeholders as required.
Evaluate and improve work processes to improve efficiency, quality and reliability
Supervise, train and manage performance of staff within the department
Qualifications and Experience:
Degree in Accounting, CPA/ACCA or Chartered Accountancy Equivalent is required (Master’s Degree is preferred)
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial management of or accounting in a company (preferably a financial institution) and at least 2 years’ experience supervising accounting functions
Experienced with at least one type of accounting software; experience in management of accounts in a core banking system (especially FLEXCUBE retail) is highly beneficial
A sound knowledge of microfinance and principles and banking practices
Proficient in MS-Office Suite (especially Excel); Experience in Microfin is beneficial
Fluency in English is required; fluency in Igbo or other local language desired
