BURN operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Kano, dedicated to producing high-quality clean cooking stoves. We seek a Senior HR Officer to provide strategic support to the Human Resources department in Kano, Nigeria. The ideal candidate will oversee key administrative and operational responsibilities to maintain seamless HR processes while fostering the well-being of our workforce. This role extends beyond Kano, encompassing broader support for Nigerian operations and the company’s group-wide activities.

The job entails a diverse range of duties and responsibilities essential to the role. Key tasks include managing day-to-day operations, overseeing project timelines, ensuring compliance with company policies, and maintaining high standards of quality. Additional responsibilities involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, analyzing performance metrics, and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency. The position also requires effective communication with stakeholders, addressing inquiries, and providing timely updates to senior leadership. Furthermore, the role demands adherence to industry regulations and adherence to safety protocols.

The employee will be responsible for managing the onboarding process for all new hires at BURN, ensuring they are thoroughly introduced to all necessary documentation, such as contracts, policies, rules, and procedures.

Managing employee HR inquiries and, as needed, elevating unresolved concerns to senior leadership for review.

The organization is responsible for identifying and hiring both temporary and permanent staff, ranging from entry-level positions to managerial roles.

Responsible for evaluating company policies and providing training sessions to employees regarding policy updates.

Gathering all necessary documentation from new employees to facilitate contract preparation is required.

Responsible for tracking contract expiration dates by maintaining the electronic employee database and verifying that all employees possess valid, up-to-date contracts before performing their duties.

Overseeing the staff medical allowance program, validating the authenticity of submitted claims, and processing reimbursements accordingly.

Conducting the proper offboarding procedure for employees and contractors, verifying that all necessary documentation is completed prior to their departure, arranging medical examinations for factory staff leaving the organization, and ensuring the return of all company property in satisfactory condition.

Overseeing the scheduling and execution of comprehensive medical examinations for all personnel.

Maintaining an up-to-date training calendar and accurately identifying training requirements are essential responsibilities.

As needed, you may be tasked with additional responsibilities as determined by your manager, ensuring alignment with business objectives and operational needs.

Seeking candidates with a strong background in relevant technical or professional competencies, who can demonstrate proficiency through years of hands-on experience in the field. Must possess the ability to apply specialized knowledge to solve complex problems and optimize processes. Requires experience with industry-standard tools, methodologies, or frameworks, as well as a proven track record of delivering measurable results. A bachelor’s degree in industrial relations or a related field, coupled with a minimum of five years of human resources experience in the manufacturing industry, is required.

Possesses comprehensive familiarity with the Nigerian Labour legislation and its implications.

Skilled in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong expertise in Excel and PowerPoint.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities with a proven track record in leadership and collaboration.

Exceptional ability to plan, prioritize, and manage tasks efficiently while maintaining meticulous attention to detail in dynamic environments.

Proficiency in commuting to or relocating to Kano is required.

Membership in a recognized HR professional body is highly beneficial.

Fluency in English is essential, and proficiency in Hausa is also required.
