Job Summary

MSHE Homes Limited is in search of a meticulous Cost Accountant to deliver precise cost analysis, ensure robust financial oversight, and produce comprehensive contract cost reports for the company’s real estate development and construction initiatives.

Oversee and execute a range of critical duties, including managing project timelines, coordinating team efforts, and ensuring adherence to organizational standards. Develop and maintain strategic plans to optimize workflow efficiency and drive project success. Monitor progress through regular assessments, providing timely feedback and corrective actions as needed. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives and facilitate seamless communication. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Oversee and document all expenditures related to construction and real estate agreements, verifying that costs adhere strictly to predefined financial parameters.

Review contractor and subcontractor invoices, progress claims, and payment certificates to ensure they align with contract schedules and completed work.

Develop and manage contract cost schedules, cash flow projections, and cost-to-complete estimates for all ongoing development projects.

Analyze contract variations, change orders, and claims to evaluate their financial implications and provide informed recommendations to the Contract Management team.

Proactively detect and report any cost overruns, financial irregularities, or potential risks at the earliest stage, while providing actionable recommendations for corrective measures.

Compile monthly, quarterly, and project-end cost reports that compare budgeted versus actual expenditures, identify key variances, and assess potential financial risks.

Perform comprehensive cost evaluations encompassing materials, labor, plant operations, and overhead expenses to facilitate well-informed financial decision-making.

Reconcile contract expenditures within the accounting framework and validate precise distribution to designated project cost centers and general ledger accounts.

Provide assistance in developing and overseeing project budgets, performing continuous variance analyses, and proposing measures to enhance cost control.

Perform assessments of contractors and suppliers, examining Bills of Quantities, pricing schedules, and rate analyses to guarantee optimal cost efficiency.

Ensure meticulous documentation and compliance of all contract cost transactions with established company financial policies, accounting standards, and Nigerian regulatory mandates.

Assist in the execution of internal and external audit procedures by furnishing precise cost information, relevant documentation, and complete financial records as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is essential. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are necessary. At least 3 years of experience in software development or a comparable role is preferred. Familiarity with data structures, algorithms, and software development best practices is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders are crucial.

A relevant professional qualification such as a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in disciplines like Accounting, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a closely aligned field is required.

Professional certification or membership in organizations such as ICAN, ARCA, CIA, or NILS would be considered an asset.

A minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience in cost accounting or project cost control, with a preference for candidates from the construction or real estate industries, is required.

Proven expertise in evaluating Bill of Quantities (BOQ’s), conducting contract valuations, and verifying contractor payment certifications is required.

Proficiency in sophisticated Microsoft Excel and specialized accounting/ERP software is required, along with a solid understanding of Nigerian tax regulations—including Withholding Tax (WHT) and Value Added Tax (VAT)—specifically relevant to construction contracts.
