Job Summary
We seek a Gallery Curator who will be responsible for conceptualizing, organizing, and managing exhibitions and displays in the gallery.
This role involves selecting artworks, collaborating with artists, researching themes, and ensuring the artistic integrity and relevance of exhibitions.
The curator will also works closely with the gallery team to enhance visitor engagement and promote the gallery’s vision.
Key Responsibilities
Develop themes and concepts for exhibitions that align with the gallery’s mission and vision.
Sort for collaborators, partners and inventors, interested in art.
Select and acquire artworks from artists, collectors, or institutions for exhibitions.
Oversee the layout and presentation of artworks, ensuring a cohesive narrative and aesthetic appeal.
Collaborate with designers, installers, and other staff to plan exhibition layouts and displays.
Conduct research on artists, artworks, and exhibition themes.
Stay updated on art trends, movements, and emerging artists.
Produce interpretative materials, such as exhibition catalogs, wall texts, and labels.
Build and maintain relationships with artists, collectors, and art institutions.
Coordinate with artists to commission or borrow works for exhibitions.
Negotiate terms for loans or acquisitions of artwork.
Deliver talks, tours, and presentations about exhibitions to the public, patrons, and media.
Collaborate with the marketing team to promote exhibitions through social media, press releases, and events.
Develop educational programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives tied to exhibitions.
Catalog and document artworks in the gallery’s permanent collection.
Ensure proper care, storage, and conservation of artworks.
Work with conservators and technicians to maintain the integrity of exhibited pieces.
Develop and manage exhibition budgets.
Prepare reports and proposals for upcoming exhibitions.
Assist in securing funding or sponsorships for exhibitions and programs.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
Proven experience in curating exhibitions or similar roles.
Skills:
Strong understanding of art history, contemporary art, and curatorial practices.
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
Proficiency in project management and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with gallery or museum management software.
