Job Purpose/Objectives
To oversee our tax strategies and treasury operations in Nigeria. This role will ensure compliance with local tax regulations and optimize our treasury functions, supporting our financial objectives and business growth.
Job & Main Specifications (Education/Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, Experience & Other Required Details)
University degree in Accounting or any Finance related discipline.
Relevant postgraduate / professional qualification (ICAN, ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc).
Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a tax and treasury function, 5 of which must have been in a leadership role with an Oil and Gas company.
Strong understanding of the Nigerian tax law especially with regards to the Oil and Gas industry, tax management principles and practices and an appreciation of local and global contemporary tax legislation /emerging tax laws.
Excellent relationship, interpersonal and communication skills. Able to build and leverage on strong relationship with the various tax authorities and banks to the benefit of the Company.
In-depth understanding of capital planning, optimising financial resources and maintaining strong liquidity.
Strong analytical, business acumen, leadership, negotiation and persuading skills.
Results oriented with high level of attention to details.
Strong business ethics and high level of integrity.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Duties & Responsibilities
Act as a key member of the Head of Finance leadership team and interfacing with Group Financing, Corporate Affairs, Tax and Treasury with regards funding and funds management.
Ensure proactive review of the Company’s structure and operations for optimal tax efficiency. Proactively identify and advise Management on tax effective structure and tax planning opportunities/options to minimise tax exposure/liabilities.
Responsible for the company’s treasury operations and provides advice on international financing issues related to acquisitions, new ventures and divestiture.
Monitor and ensure compliance to tax requirements (Hydrocarbon Tax, PIA, PPT, CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE, etc) by ensuring timely and adequate computation and remittance of tax liabilities in line with defined deadlines.
Coordinate tax audits/inspections in conjunction with tax authorities/external Tax Consultants.
Monitor local debt/bonds facilities and associated reporting requirements to ensure full compliance.
Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess implications for the company and develop/maintain relationships with relevant tax authorities and government agencies.
Provide technical insight with regards to various tax laws and the impact on the Company’s operations and ensure tax implications are proactively analysed to aid decision making.
Develop and maintain healthy and productive relationships with banks and other funding sources to secure the most favourable terms for the business.
Conduct risk assessments related to foreign exchange, interest rates, and commodity pricing.
Proactively manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity management to ensure sufficient funds for operational needs.
Develop strategies for optimizing working capital, including receivables and payables management.
Champion the continuous review and update of finance and accounting policies and processes to reflect changes in business operations and ensure alignment with leading practices.
Support the Head of Finance on achieving Finance objectives.
