With over 50 years of experience in diverse areas such as economic development, employment promotion, energy and the environment, and peace and security, GIZ collaborates with various partners, including the German Government, European Union institutions, United Nations, private sector, and other governments.
GIZ fosters successful interaction between development policy and other policy fields by working with businesses, civil society actors, and research institutions. The primary commissioning party is the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Headquartered in Bonn and Eschborn, GIZ has approximately 23,500 employees, 70% of whom are national personnel, operating in around 120 countries (July 2020).
Since 1974, GIZ has been active in Nigeria and established a country office in Abuja in 2004. As of June 2020, the team in Nigeria comprises 361 national employees, 66 international employees, 19 regional staff, 4 integrated specialists, and 3 development workers.

The Project

GIZ Country Offices serve as the central element of GIZ’s field structure, ensuring consistent overall representation of the company and its successful positioning in the international cooperation market. Led by a country director, these offices oversee the country portfolio’s quality and coherence across all business sectors.
Country directors also manage officers responsible for commissions in public-benefit TC measures within their area. The GIZ Offices provide human resources and commercial support services for programs and projects and conduct internal audits of project administrations. These services follow specific rules and processes.

Responsibilities & Tasks
Responsibilities:
The Driver is responsible for:

Driving staff to various office locations using the Country Office (CO) vehicles.
Ensuring the orderly operation and cleanliness of CO vehicles.
Regularly cleaning the interior and exterior of vehicles.
Checking oil, water, brakes and brake fluid, tire pressure, battery levels, and the entire vehicle daily.
Monitoring vehicle mileage and informing the supervisor when servicing is due—either every 5,000 km or three months, whichever comes first.
Calculating monthly petrol, oil, and lubricant consumption for GIZ vehicles.
Keeping accurate and up-to-date logbook records.

Tasks:
Office Services:
The Driver will:

Safely and responsibly carry out all official journeys using country office vehicles, ensuring smooth and timely completion of tasks.
Maintain required logbooks and other documentation related to the vehicle.
Document and share updates on road conditions, routes, and locations with other drivers and GIZ as needed.
Perform assigned tasks accurately and within stipulated timelines, adhering to the conditions set by the line manager.

Support Office Administration:
The Driver will:

Support the delivery of external correspondence for the country office as required.
Assist with bank-related activities, including the delivery of letters.
Run official errands for the country office.
Transport goods as required.
Report the need for vehicle servicing and repairs promptly.
Immediately report all accidents, damage, loss, or theft involving the country office vehicle.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor, line manager, or management.

Required Qualifications, Competences, and Experience
Qualifications:

Senior Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.

Professional Experience:

Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a driver.
Experience in an international organization environment.
Proven integrity and good character.

Other Knowledge and Additional Competences:

Good knowledge of first aid and defensive driving.
Strong communication skills.
Proficiency in English.
Disciplined, responsible, and punctual.
Smart, intelligent, trustworthy, and energetic.
Courteous to both staff and visitors.
Willingness to work flexible shifts, including night shifts under the CO driver’s duty roster.
Reliable and well-organized, with an appropriate clean and professional appearance.

Salary

According to GIZ Salary Scale for Band 1.
