GIZ has operated in Nigeria since 1974, establishing a country office in Abuja in 2004. Currently, it employs 361 national staff, 66 international employees, 19 regional staff, 4 integrated specialists, and 3 development workers in Nigeria (as of June 2020).

The Project
Sustainable Agricultural Systems and Policies (AgSys):

This global project supports partner countries in transitioning to sustainable agricultural systems. Recognizing that current agricultural practices are insufficient to feed a growing population while preserving natural resources, AgSys advocates for transformative practices and frameworks.
At the country level, the project builds on existing innovations and partnerships, providing policy advice at federal and state levels. Globally, AgSys fosters regional exchanges and links reform approaches to international agendas to enhance feasibility.

Carbon Off-Setting in Carbon Emissions (CORE):

CORE enables smallholder rice farmers to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through climate-sensitive technologies. It develops methodologies for accrediting carbon credits in low-emission rice farming, submits projects for accreditation, and complies with standard-setting organizations.

Responsibilities & Tasks
Responsibilities:
The Project Assistant is responsible for:

Supporting technical advisors in preparing, implementing, and documenting activities.
Assisting with project events and M&E activities.
Representing the project at events when required.
Documenting workshops and meetings.

Tasks:
Secretariat Work and Support Services:

Prepare project correspondence (post, email).
Respond to correspondence and coordinate appointments.
Draw up service requests and assist with contract preparation.
Prepare visitor programs, travel schedules, and visitor transport.
Participate in meetings and document them (e.g., minutes).
Photocopy and scan documents as required.

Monitoring & Evaluation Support:

Record attendance at external events, ensuring diversity criteria.
Monitor attendance of diverse stakeholder groups.
Select and input data for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

Administration and Knowledge Management:

Create and maintain an address file with key contacts.
Maintain a filing system while ensuring confidentiality, especially for personnel and finance.

Communication and External Relations:

Welcome and support visitors, including counterparts and consultants.
Represent the project at internal events like Induction Week.
Assist in preparing communication materials.
Organize events and document workshops and seminars.

Other Duties/Additional Tasks:

Perform additional tasks as requested by management.
Organize and coordinate support staff within the project cluster.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Qualifications:

University Degree in Social Studies, Communications, or Business Administration.

Professional Experience:

Minimum of 1 year in a comparable position.
Experience with GIZ Nigeria & ECOWAS (preferred).
Experience in monitoring and evaluation.

Additional Competences:

Proficiency in ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g., MS Office).
Excellent knowledge of English.
Strong management and organizational skills.
Customer and service-oriented attitude.
Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management.
