Job Summary

Our client on of the leading company in the Energy sector is looking to hire Hydrology Manager to oversee the hydrological operations four major dams holding approximately a combined total of 30 billion cubic meters of water. He/She will be responsible for managing all hydrological operations across the large dams operated by the company. This senior-level position will focus on optimizing water resource management, ensuring efficient dam operations, and minimizing risks associated with water inflow, storage, and release. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and other key departments to develop and implement strategies for sustainable hydrological practices across the company’s assets.

Job Details

Water Resource Management:

Oversee the hydrological operations of all dams under the company’s management, including water inflow forecasting, reservoir management, and water release protocols.
Develop and implement water resource management strategies that align with operational goals, environmental regulations, and energy generation requirements.
Manage the water balance across the company’s hydropower assets, ensuring optimal levels for power generation and flood control.

Hydrological Forecasting & Monitoring:

Utilize hydrological data and advanced modeling tools to forecast water inflows, droughts, floods, and other water-related risks.
Implement and manage real-time monitoring systems to track water levels, inflow, and discharge rates across all dams.
Analyze meteorological and climate data to predict long-term changes in water availability and adjust operations accordingly.

Dam Operations & Safety:

Collaborate with dam operators, engineers, and other technical teams to ensure the safe and efficient operation of dams.
Develop and oversee water release schedules, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, downstream requirements, and flood risk mitigation.
Collaborate with Dam Safety Manager for elaboration of risk assessments related to dam safety, flood potential, and water storage, and develop emergency response plans for high-risk scenarios.

Data Management & Reporting:

Manage the collection, analysis, and interpretation of hydrological data to support decision-making at both operational and strategic levels.
Prepare detailed reports on water inflows & outflows, and reservoir management for senior management and external stakeholders.
Ensure data accuracy and integrity, while continuously improving hydrological models and systems.

Sustainability & Environmental Compliance:

Develop and implement strategies for sustainable water management, ensuring the company’s hydrological operations are environmentally responsible.
Ensure compliance with local and international water management regulations and environmental standards.
Engage with regulatory bodies, communities, and environmental organizations to align water management practices with stakeholder expectations and legal requirements.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

Collaborate closely with the CTO, plant managers, and other technical teams to integrate hydrological operations with overall power generation strategies.
Engage with government agencies, river basin authorities, and other stakeholders to coordinate water resource management efforts.
Provide hydrological expertise to support project development, upgrades, and expansions of existing dams and water infrastructure.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

Stay updated on the latest advancements in hydrology, water management, and climate science to incorporate innovative solutions into the company’s hydrological operations.
Lead efforts to improve hydrological models, forecasting accuracy, and data analytics capabilities.
Implement best practices in hydrology to enhance water management efficiency, reliability, and safety.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Management, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) in Hydrology, Water Resource Engineering, or Environmental Science are highly preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 10-12 years of experience in hydrological operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role within the power generation, water resources, or hydropower sectors.
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of dam operations, water resource management, and hydrological modeling. Experience with hydrological forecasting tools and software is essential.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex hydrological operations, and deliver results in high-stakes environments.
Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of water management regulations, environmental standards, and dam safety protocols.
